Southeast University, the nationally renowned university which begins its term earliest in Jiangsu Province, welcomed its 4,000 undergraduate freshmen of year 2018 on August 24 and 25. During these two days, Zuo Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University, President Zhang Guangjun and Zheng Jiamao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, when accompanied by principals of the Party Committee Office, the President Office, the Student Affairs Office, the General Affairs Office, the Security Office, the Finance Office and the Youth League Committee, welcomed the freshmen and their parents at all sites and inspected the reception.

The delegation of President Zhang Guangjun came to the registration sites of the School of Physics and the School of Cyberspace Security at Meiyuan No. 4 dormitoryto visit the undergraduate freshmen and their parents who were making registration, convey cordial greetings to the volunteers and staff, and ask about the freshmen enrolment and registration in detail. At the freshmen’s dormitory, President Zhang carefully reviewed the safety and use status of all facilities; at the “Green Channel” for freshmen registration, President Zhang granted subsidies and inspirational books such as “Xi Jinping’s Educated Youth of Seven Years” and the “Big Data Era” etc. to the freshmen in economic difficulties. Besides, the delegation of President Zhang also went to the school’s hospital to know about the freshmen’s physical examination.

In the morning of August 25, Secretary Zuo Wei firstly came to the registration site of School of Architecture at the first floor of Qian Gong Yuan, Sipailou Campus to visit the freshmen and their parents who were making registration, and convey cordial greetings to the volunteers and staff. Then, the delegation of Secretary Zuo came to Nanjing South Railway Station and the “Southeast University Jiulonghu Campus Station” of Metro Line 3 to express their sincere congratulations and warm welcome to the freshmen of year 2018 and their parents who had just arrived at the railway station and the subway station. At the registration sites of School of Transportation and School of Electronic Science and Engineering at Taoyuan No. 6 dormitory, Secretary Zuo kindly communicated with the freshmen and their parents, and greeted the reception volunteers and staff. At the “Green Channel” for freshmen enrolment, Secretary Zuo also granted inspirational books to these freshmen.

One day before the freshmen’s registration, Deputy Secretary Zheng Jiamao went to the baggage issuing office, the military training uniform and earphone distribution sites, the physical examination centre at the school’s hospital, the Green Channel for the freshmen, the freshmen registration offices at Meiyuan and Taoyuan, etc. to check the freshmen registration and guarantee the registration to be carried out in a safe and orderly manner.

It is known that the undergraduate freshmen of Southeast University in 2018 include 334 in the category of literature and history, accounting for 8.35%; 3389 in the category of science and engineering,accounting for 84.73%; 89 in the category of art, accounting for 2.22% and 188 in the category of comprehensive reform, accounting for 4.7%. Among these freshmen, there are 2501 males and 1499 females with the gender ratio of 5:3 from 27 nationalities, including 374 minority students, accounting for 9.35%. Also among these freshmen, there are 111students enrolled independently, 120 students enrolled according to comprehensive evaluation, 17 students from high-level art troupes, 25 students from high-level sports teams, 5 juveniles, 28 students enrolled by recommendation for foreign languages, 83 students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan (including 32 students enrolled from the overseas Chinese federations in Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan, 13 students enrolled by recommendation from Macao, 28 students enrolled by recommendation from Taiwan and 10 students enrolled by recommendation from Hongkong), 260 students enrolled from national specific programs, 65 students enrolled from the specific “Dream Building” program sponsored by higher education institutions, 33 students from inland Tibet class, 32 students from inland Xinjiang class and 77 preparatory students enrolled in former years but registered in this year.

For the students from economically disadvantageous families, the university has established the specific “Green Channel” for handling registration procedures, postponed payment of tuitions and accommodation fees to exempt students and parents from worries; besides, the affectionate gift sets for students from economically disadvantageous families have also been prepared. These students would be subsidized by RMB 500-2000. In addition, the university has also paid special attentions to inspiring the students spiritually from economically disadvantageous families by granting them books as elaborately selected. In addition, Jiangsu Ruihua Charity Foundation donated RMB 15 million to our school to set up “Southeast University Ruihua Scholarship Foundation” and the specific “Ruihua Spring Rain” freshmen scholarship, which have subsidized accumulative 310 freshmen from economically disadvantageous families in West China and other remote and poverty-stricken areas.
